There is something so satisfying about eating from your own garden.
Is it the freshness of the ingredients when compared to what we buy from the store?
Is it the care and concern I know I put into nurturing the plants by watering and pruning them?
I made pesto from the leaves of the sweet basil plant growing on my deck. The fragrant, herbaceous green flavor of the basil, combined with garlic, lemon juice and fresh grated parmesan just hits different.
I used the pesto to make “dinner.” Dinner consisted of a piece of french baguette sliced in half, drizzled with olive oil, pesto spread over top, then covered with a slice of fresh mozzarella. I lightly toasted it in the oven. What a treat! It was lite fare for dinner, many would probably consider it a snack. But, it filled my belly. It also filled my heart and mind with satisfaction. Perhaps it was the work of my own hands.
May you too find joy in the work of your own hands as much as I did with my dinner.
